Abstract Several studies exist in the literature that utilized metaheuristics and nature-inspired algorithms to solve engineering problems. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a well-known algorithm has been used for different optimization problems due its simplicity ability find near-optimal solutions. However, PSO suffers from problem of balancing between global search local abilities when applied Recently, new variant based on novel multi-swarm architecture called Multi-swarm (MPSO) was proposed. The proposed MPSO evaluated solving normal large-scale This study possibility using simulate Welded Beam Design (WDB) which mechanical problem. simulations were performed approach results, model observed WBD with better optimal solution compared standalone PSO. outcome this further confirmed robustness over other known metaheuristics.
